“Theatre in Iranian Society”

Art is one of the cultural elements which has been produced in Iranian society during the ancient and modern era. Although beginning of the modern theatre in geo- cultural field of Iran is considered in 19th century with the authoring of plays by Mirza Fath Ali Akhondzadeh (1849) and Mirza Agha Tabrizi’s plays (1870). But in an evolutionary course, phenomenologically, the history of Iranian theatre originated from rituals and traditional theatrical phenomena, then it has taken from European theatre methods and the art of theatre has finally become a part of Iran's culture today.
On the other hand, the formation of theatre educational institutions, the expansion of fixed and non-fixed theatre groups, the development of theatres, the holding of various theatre festivals at the national and international level, new approaches to theatre, including applied theatre, has been led to the foundation of modern Iranian theatre.
The Journal of Theatre Criticism and Dramaturgy (JTCD) aims to familiarise international audiences with theatre developments in Iran and the vision of Iranian theatre. To achieve this, a special issue dedicated to 'Theatre in Iranian Society' will be published.

The Journal of Theatre Criticism and Dramaturgy - Tiyatro Eleştirmenliği ve Dramaturji Bölümü Dergisi - is a scientific, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes twice a year in June and December. It is dedicated to the study of theatre and performance, featuring social and historical studies, as well as theoretical inquiries that analyze dramatic texts and productions. The journal does not charge any article processing or submission fees.

- Submissions will be accepted in English.

- Deadline: 30 June 2024.
- Articles should be 5,000 to 8,000 words.
