Drought Analysis in the Gaziantep Province Based on the Standard Precipitation Index
Suat Karadaş, Ali İmamoğluDrought is a meteorological disaster that negatively impacts the ecosystem, limits various human activities, and causes important ecological problems. Droughts are distinguished from other disasters based on the uncertainty associated with their start and end times as well as their increasing effects with time. In this study, the standardized precipitation index (SPI) method, which converts the precipitation parameters into a single numerical value, was used to analyze the droughts occurring in areas with different climates. This study was conducted based on the data obtained from the Gaziantep meteorological station numbered 17261 in the Gaziantep province in the Middle Euphrates Section of the Southeastern Anatolia region in Turkey. The SPI method was applied to the long-term average annual rainfall data obtained from the aforementioned meteorological station (1982–2018), and the SPI index values were obtained using the DrinC software.
