A Few Documents Related to Istanbul University Academic Staff Member Mehmed Âkif
Mehmet Ruyan SoydanWhen we look at the mental world of Mehmed Âkif, we see that one of the most important issues that he put at the center of life in the fight against social ignorance was the subject of science (education). Akif, who did not see it possible for society to live with ignorance, saw education as the most important condition for a human being to live humanely. For this reason, he spent nearly half of his life in educational activities, both by teaching private lessons and by giving lessons in various schools. A part of this teaching career, which started in Halkalı Agricultural School in 1906 and continued until the end of his life, and perhaps the most important part of his life, was becoming the teacher of "Ottoman Literature" in Istanbul Dar'ülfünûn Literature Faculty. During this time, which lasted for about five years, he worked as a collaborator with the leading literary and scholarly men of the period and became the teacher of many students who would join the world of science and literature in the following periods. He also taught Turkish and literature courses at Çiftlik Mechnist School and Dâr'ül-hilâfeti'l Âliyye Madrasa, and finally at the Cairo Câmi'atü'l-Misriyye Faculty of Letters, and wrote books and articles about these courses. In order to contribute to the studies on Mehmed Âkif's teaching and professorship duties, some documents related to his education will be shared in this study. Most of these documents belong to Istanbul Dar'ülfünûn Literature Faculty, and some of them consist of documents related to Âkif’s other educational activities.
İstanbul Dâr’ül-Fünûn Muallimi Mehmed Âkif’e Ait Birkaç Evrak
Mehmet Ruyan SoydanMehmed Âkif’in zihin dünyasına baktığımızda, toplumsal cehaletle mücadelede hayatın merkezine aldığı en önemli hususlardan birisinin ilim (eğitim) mevzuu olduğunu görürüz. Cemiyetin cehaletle yaşamasını mümkün görmeyen Âkif, insanın insanca yaşamasının en mühim şartı olarak eğitimi görür. Bu sebeple ömrünün yarısına tekabül eden bir süreyi eğitim faaliyetleri içerisinde gerek hususi ders okutarak gerekse muhtelif okullarda dersler vererek geçirmiştir. Halkalı Ziraat Mektebi’nde 1906 yılında başlayan ve ömrünün sonuna kadar devam ettirmiş olduğu bu muallimlik mesleğinin bir bölümü -belki de zihinlerde yer eden en önemli bölümü- İstanbul Dârü’lfünûnu Edebiyat Şubesi’ndeki “Edebiyât-ı Osmaniye” hocalığı olmuştur. Beş yıl kadar süren bu zaman zarfında dönemin önde gelen edib ve ilim adamlarıyla birlikte mesai arkadaşlığı yapmış ve sonraki dönemlerde ilim ve edebiyat dünyamızda yer alacak birçok talebenin hocası olmuştur. Ayrıca, Çiftlik Makinist Mektebi ve Dâr’ülhilâfeti’l Âliyye Medresesi’nde ve en nihayet Kahire Câmi’atü’l-Mısriyye Edebiyat Fakültesi’nde Türkçe ve edebiyat dersleri okutmuş ve bu derslerle ilgili kitap ve yazılar kaleme almıştır. Mehmed Âkif’in muallimlik ve müderrislik vazifelerine ilişkin yapılacak çalışmalara katkı sağlamak amacıyla elimizde bulunan onun eğitimciliğiyle ilgili bazı vesikalar burada paylaşılacaktır. Bu belgelerden büyük kısmı doğrudan İstanbul Dârü’l-fünûnu’na ait olup, bir kısmı ise Âkif’in diğer eğitimcilik vazifeleriyle ilgili belgelerden ibaret bulunmaktadır.
