The ways in which family-specific experiences occur in Turkey have changed significantly over the last fifty years. First of all, urban mobility and urban transformation processes have changed settlement practices and weakened the solidaristic qualities of family relations. In addition, international migration movements and technological developments have created new family forms such as the remote family and the transnational family and changed the nature of the relationships that make up the family. On top of these, the process of neoliberalization coupled with postmodern sociocultural developments has weakened the social norms and expectations that define the roles within the family and made these roles open to negotiation. Thus a process has emerged in which rights and responsibilities within the scope of intra-family roles are evaluated in terms of the benefits and risks they carry for the individual. In this process, decisions and practices related to aspects such as marriage, having children, maintaining familial relations, and raising children have become reflexive and dependent on individual initiative. However, this does not mean these decisions and practices are independent of power structures. These days, the family as a unit of interdependent relations has become an object of monitoring and self-monitoring processes, especially in relation to education and health.

This Special Issue will focus on the family and how it has become open to different kinds of changes and gained a more dynamic structure within the framework of the aforementioned developments and influences. The aim is to identify the opportunities as well as the new problem areas that these changes and dynamic structure have created for the family and to develop strategies and policy recommendations that will strengthen the family by analyzing these opportunities and problem areas. For this reason, articles are expected to be based on quantitative, qualitative, or mixed research methods and to address the family from a unique perspective within its social context. Articles will be accepted from the field of sociology and the related disciplines of the social sciences. This Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:

- Changing patterns in marriage and family

- Changes in family relationships

- Family and health

- Technology, reproduction, and the family

- Digitalization and the family

- Changes in parenting

- New perception of childhood

- Family and social policy

- New family life

- Sociology of the household

- New directions in family and parenting research

- Family migration
