EVALUATION OF THE SHEAR BOND STRENGTH OF METAL BRACKETS TO THE COMPOSITE SURFACE WITH DIFFERENT ROUGHENING METHODS

Objective: For orthodontists, one of the most challenging problems for orthodontic treatment applications is composite fillings, especially on the buccal surfaces of anterior teeth. While it has been shown that the correct roughening of the composite surface affects the bond strength of the brackets, there are few studies in the related literature. The aim of this study is to evaluate the bond strength of the bonded brackets after the composite surfaces have been prepared with various roughening methods and to examine the composite surfaces with the Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI). Materials and method: 36 samples created from nanofil composite with dimensions of 5x5x2 mm were randomly divided into 3 groups. After that the surfaces were roughened with 37% orthophosphoric acid, sandblasted with Al2 O3 and roughened with an Er:YAG laser. Then, the upper central brackets were adhered to the surfaces. With the Universal test device, the brackets were separated from the surface and the resulting bond strength was recorded in megapascals (MPa). For ARI scoring, the surfaces were examined under x20 magnification with an optical microscope. Results: As a result of the evaluation of the test results, a bond strength of 4.724±0.891 MPa for orthophosphoric acid, 9.077±1.480 MPa for sandblasting, and 9.319±1.628 MPa for the laser were recorded. The difference between the bond strengths of the Er:YAG laser and sandblasted groups was not statistically significant (p>0.05). In the orthophosphoric acid group, the bond strength was found to be statistically lower than both the Er:YAG laser and sandblasting (p<0.05) According to ARI scoring, an ARI score of 3 was found, in which a high percentage of adhesive residue remained on the composite surface in all three groups. Conclusion: The bond strength resulting from the orthophosphoric acid used while bonding metal brackets to composite surfaces is clinically insufficient. If clinically appropriate conditions can be formed, sandblasting has been observed as an effective and practical roughening method.

KOMPOZİT YÜZEYE FARKLI PÜRÜZLENDİRME YÖNTEMLERİ İLE YAPIŞTIRILAN METAL BRAKETLERİN MAKASLAMA BAĞLANMA DAYANIMLARININ DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Amaç: Ortodontik tedavi uygulamaları sırasında hekimleri en çok zorlayan sorunlardan biri özellikle ön bölge dişlerinin bukkal yüzeylerinde bulunan kompozit dolgulardır. Kompozit yüzeyin doğru bir şekilde pürüzlendirilmesi braketlerin bağlanma dayanımlarını etkilediği düşünülmekte fakat bununla ilgili literatürde az çalışmaya rastlanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı kompozit yüzeylerin çeşitli pürüzlendirme yöntemleri ile hazırlanması sonrası yapıştırılan braketlerin bağlanma dayanımlarını ölçmek ve kopma bölgelerinin artık adeviz indeksi (Adhesive Remnant Index: ARI) ile incelenmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Nanofil kompozitten 5x5x2 mm boyutlarında oluşturulmuş 36 adet örnek rastgele olarak 3 gruba ayrılmış, yüzeyler %37’lik ortofosforik asit, Al2 O3 ile kumlama ve Er:YAG lazer ile pürüzlendirilmiş ve yüzeylere üst santral kesici braketleri yapıştırılmıştır. Universal test cihazi ile birlikte braketler yüzeyden ayrılmış ve ortaya çıkan bağlanma kuvveti megapascal (MPa) cinsinden kaydedilmiştir. Sıyırma sonrası yüzeyler optik mikroskop altında x20 büyütme ile incelenmiştir. Bulgular: Test sonuçlarının değerlendirilmesi sonucunda ortofosforik asit için 4.724±0.891 MPa, kumlama için 9.077±1.480 MPa ve lazer için 9.319±1.628 MPa’lık bir bağlanma kuvveti oluşmuştur. Er:YAG lazer ve kumlama yapılan gruplardaki bağlanma kuvvetleri arasındaki fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmamıştır (p>0.05). Ortofosforik asit grubunda bağlanma kuvveti hem Er:YAG lazere göre hem de kumlamaya göre istatistiksel olarak düşük bulunmuştur(p<0.05) ARI skorlamasına göre ise 3 grupta da yüksek oranda yapıştırıcı artığının kompozit yüzeyde kaldığı ARI skor 3’e rastlanmıştır. Sonuç: Kompozit yüzeylere metal braket yapıştırılırken kullanılan ortofosforik asit sonucu oluşan bağlanma kuvveti klinik olarak yetersizdir. Klinik olarak uygun koşullar oluşturulabilirse etkili ve pratik pürüzlendirme yöntemi olarak kumlama gözlenmiştir.
