On the Included/Should Have Terms of Pragmatics in the Güncel Türkçe Sözlük [Current Turkish Dictionary]

Pragmatics is based on the Latin pragmaticus, which is derived from the root pragma [a thing done, a fact]. Pragmatic studies, which had gained momentum with the works of Ross, Lakoff, Austin, Searle and Grice, developed with the joint efforts of linguists, philosophers, and semiotics after the 1960s. Pragmatics became an independent linguistic discipline starting in the 1970s and became completely established in the 1980s. Sharing principles, methods, and terminology among the different scientific fields in recent years, such as anthropology, cognitive psychology, philosophy of language, communication, cultural ethnography, logic, and sociology, has increased the importance of pragmatics. Neslihan Kansu-Yetkiner, Engin Yılmaz, and Özen Yaylagül Üstünel have also recently published book-level reviews on the subject in Turkey. As is known, general dictionaries are important for the spread and correct use of pragmatic terminology. This research involves the main pragmatic terms that are and that should be included in the Turkish Language Association’s (TDK) Current Turkish Dictionary on the internet as “listener, pragmatics, illocutionary, deixis, speaker, politeness, out of politeness, presupposition, and implication” and has examined them in light of the relevant literature while also making lexical definition suggestions to the institutions and individuals that prepare the dictionary. The research is a descriptive study whose main purpose is to contribute to theoretical pragmatics studies.

Güncel Türkçe Sözlük’te Yer Alan/Alması Gereken Edim Bilimi Terimleri Üzerine

Edim bilimi (pragmatics), Latincede “pragma” kökünden türemiş “iş, fiil” anlamlarına gelen “pragmaticus” kelimesine dayanmaktadır. 1960’lı yıllardan sonra özellikle Ross, Lakoff, Austin, Searle ve Grice’ın çalışmalarıyla ivme kazanan edim bilimi çalışmaları dilbilimcilerin, felsefecilerin ve göstergebilimcilerin ortak çabalarıyla genişlemiş ve derinleşmiştir. Edim biliminin bağımsız bir dil bilimi disiplini hâline gelmesi, 1970’lerde başlamış, 1980’lerde ise kurulum tamamlanmıştır. Son yıllarda “antropoloji, bilişsel psikoloji, dil felsefesi, iletişim, kültürel etnografi, mantık, sosyoloji” vb. farklı bilimsel alanlarla ilke, veri, yöntem ve terminoloji paylaşımında bulunulması, edim biliminin öneminin daha da artmasını sağlamıştır. Türkiye’de de Neslihan Kansu-Yetkiner (Kansu, Yetkiner, 2009), Engin Yılmaz (Yılmaz, 2021) ve Özen Yaylagül Üstünel (Yaylagül ÜStünel, 2020) konu ile ilgili kitap düzeyindeki incelemelerini yakın zamanda yayımlamışlardır. Bilindiği üzere, Edim bilimi terminolojisinin yaygınlaşması ve doğru kullanılması için genel sözlükler önem taşımaktadır. Bu araştırmada, TDK tarafından genel ağ (internet) ortamında yayımlanan Güncel Türkçe Sözlük’te yer alan/alması gereken başlıca Edim bilimi terimleri olan dinleyici, edim, edim bilimi, edimsöz, gösterim, konuşucu, nezaket, nezaket dışılık/nezaketsizlik, önvarsayım/önvarsayıltı/önsayıltı ve sezdirim/ima ilgili literatür ışığında incelenmiş, sözlük hazırlayıcısı kurumlara ve kişilere sözlüksel tanım önerilerinde bulunulmuştur. Betimleyici bir çalışma olan araştırmanın temel amacı, kuramsal Edim bilimi çalışmalarına katkı sunmaktır.
