Six Turkish Lyrics Written in Greek and Arabic Script in an Albanian Song Anthology in Greek Script

The Lef Nosi Collection of the Albanian State Archives preserves an Albanian anthology titled Old Songs of Elbasan composed of around 200 sheets whose last part contains six Turkish lyrics written both in Greek and  Arabic script. The texts in Greek script are transcriptions of the Arabic script texts, and as such allows them to be scrutinized from many perspectives. The main focus of this article involves the peculiarities of Turkish vernacular as reflected in the Greek script of the Turkish “transcription texts” and the place the Turkish songs hold in the Elbasan urban music folklore.The first part of the article (§ 1-3) presents the general characteristics of the anthology as well as the matter of its author and the graphic system used. The second part (§ 4) consists of an evaluation of the Turkish songs in the Elbasan urban music folklore as well as their place in different lyrics and poetry anthologies produced in Albania during the Ottoman period. The third part (§ 5-6) consists of a sociolinguistic evaluation of the use of languages and scripts/alphabets in Albania, particularly in the 19th century, and a discussion of the information  and possibility for further inquiries provided by the material in the anthology. The fourth part (§ 7-10) scrutinizes the graphic properties of the Greek script used in the anthology as well as provides a contrasting evaluation of some graphemic properties of the texts in the Arabic and Greek scripts to better understand the possibilities of the Turkish texts in Greek script as a source for helping research on the linguistic features of the Turkish used in Ottoman Albania. The fifth part (§ 11) consists of the diplomatic and Latin transcriptions of the Greek script of the Turkish texts, as well as some information about the authors and the dates of the lyrics.The Turkish texts Greek script of the present anthology linguistically show features of the Turkish once used and spoken in Albania, which are also corroborated by other written sources. Meanwhile, the graphic features of these texts (including the Albanian texts in the anthology) show some important differences from most of the other texts in Albanian or even in Turkish that were produced in Albania or that were aimed at Albanian readers. Connecting the present features with those of one of the alphabets developed for the printing of Turkish and Albanian texts in Greek script on behalf of the British and Foreign Bible Society appears more proper. The presence in this Albanian lyrical anthology of some Turkish lyrics for songs of the time that were probably brand new must be considered an important textual datum that sheds light on two otherwise under-researched problematics; the place of Turkish songs in the Albanian urban folklore, and the process of transferring the texts (lyrics) from central to provincial areas, which in this case was from Istanbul to Elbasan.

Yunan Harfli Arnavutça Bir Güfte Mecmuasında Bulunan Altı Yunan ve Arap Harfli Türkçe Güfte

Arnavutluk Devlet Arşivi Lef Nosi Fonu’nda daha önce araştırılmamış, başlığı Latin harfli, içeriği ise Yunan harfli Arnavutça “Elbasan şehri eski şarkılarından” oluşan yaklaşık 200 yapraklık bir güfte mecmuasının son kısmında hem Yunan hem Arap harfleriyle yazılmış altı Türkçe şarkı güftesi bulunmaktadır. Arap harfli metinlerinin transkripsiyonu olduğu bu Yunan harfli şarkı örnekleri birçok bakımdan değerlendirme imkânı vermektedir. Bu çalışmada, mecmuadaki Yunan harfli Türkçe metinlerin “transkripsiyon metinleri” olarak değerlendirmeye imkân verdiği mahalli Türkçenin özellikleri irdelenmiş, Elbasan şehrinin şarkı folklorunda Türkçe şarkılarının yeri ile ilgili bir değerlendirme yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın ilk kısmında mecmuanın genel özellikleri ve içeriği, mecmuanın yazarı ve yazmada kullanılmış yazı mezelesi ele alınmıştır (§ 1-3). İkinci kısımda Türkçe şarkılarının Elbasan şehir folklorundaki yeri ve Osmanlı döneminde Arnavutluk’ta kaleme istinsah edilmiş çeştili güfte ve şiir derlemelerdeki konumu ile ilgili bir değerlendirme yapılmıştır (§ 4). Üçüncü kısımda Arnavutluk’ta özellikle 19. yüzyılda dil ve yazı/alfabenin kullanımı ile ilgili ve mecmuamızdaki malzemenin bu kullanım hakkında sunduğu malumat ve araştırma imkanları açısından sosyolengüistik bir değerlendirme yapılmıştır (§ 5-6). Dördüncü kısımda (§ 7-10) mecmuada kullanılan Yunan alfabesinin bazı grafik özellikleri ile Yunan ve Arap harfli Türkçe metinler arasında bazı grafik farklar ele alınarak Yunan harfli Türkçe metinlerin Arnavutluk’ta kullanılmış Türkçenin özellikleri bakımından dilbilmsel tahlili yapılmıştır. Beşinci kısımda (§ 11) Yunan harfli Türkçe metinlerin diplomatik metni ve Latin harfli aktarımı yapılmış güftelerin yazarları ve yazılış tarıihleri ile ilgili bazı bilgiler eklenmiştir. Başka yazılı kaynaklarda da tespit ve teyit edilen Arnavutluk’ta kullanılmış Türkçenin özelliklerini taşıyan Yunan harfli Türkçe güfteler grafik özellikleri itibariyle (söz konusu özellikler mecmuanın Arnavutça metinleri için de geçerlidir) bilinen Yunan harfli Arnavutça metinlerinin çoğundan bazı değişiklikler arzeder. Burada görülen grafik tercihleri Kitab-ı Mukaddes Şirketi’nin talepleri üzerine tertiplenmiş Yunan harfli alfabelerin birine ilişkilendirmek mümkündür. Dönemin yeni sayılan Türkçe şarkıların güftelerine ekseriyetle Arnavutça metinlerden oluşan bir derlemede yer verilmesi Arnavut şehirlerinde beğenilip icra edilmiş ve şimdiye kadar ayrıntılarıyla bilgi sahibi olmadığımız Türkçe şarkı repertuvarından birkaç örneğini, metin özellikleri bakımından, tanımamızı sağlamaktadır.
