Our School became the first Nursing Faculty of Turkey when it was converted into a faculty in 50th anniversary of its establishment as a result of a happy incidence. Becoming a faculty is a milestone in nursing history of our country. The idea about the book came up while producing a documentary for “The 50th Anniversary of Istanbul University Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and celebration of becoming a faculty”. The text of the documentary “From Past to the Present: From Florence Nightingale School of Nursing to the Faculty of Nursing” was written by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ergul Aslan and Research Ass. Dr. Aylin Aktas, is decided to be published as a book to reach large masses and to permanently remain. The editor Prof. Dr. Neriman Akyolcu also made the correction and additions in the book with the resources and documents and with the advantage of having worked in the School for a long time and having witnessed to all the developments. The relevant instructors wrote the history of the commissions and departments. I believe that this book about the history of our faculty and institutional development will compensate a substantial gap and will be a source for the next studies.
Our faculty is a pioneer in raising academic staff and establishing of many Nursing Schools and Health Schools, leading in vocational international relations and academic fields. It has been raising leaders, specialists, managers, practitioners and researchers in the nursing field. With its richest academic staff in our country, our faculty is the leader of nursing with its national and international publications and will continue to raise scientists, specialist colleagues and academic members for many universities in Turkey. |
