In the Digital World: NFT

In the ever-changing and developing world in terms of technology, technology permeates every aspect of our lives. The concept of the blockchain, one of the new technologies and expected to create significant innovations and transformations in many areas, especially in the financial world, was introduced in 2009 and has become a prevalent concept since then. After blockchain technology changed the dynamics of traditional sectors, the idea of NFT technology, one of the most remarkable innovations in recent years, was put forward. This technology, which started to make a name for itself in the Digital World with the phrase ‘Unchangeable Token’, especially after 2020, is used to commodify digital assets in art, music, sports, and other fields of popular entertainment. This chapter aims to explain NFTs, their various industrial application areas, future opportunities, barriers, and advantages posed by this new technology by creating a conceptual understanding. In this context, conceptual issues related to NFTs, the relationship between NFTs and Management Information Systems, Technical Procedures to Create NFTs, NFT Application Areas, Pilot Projects Brought by NFTs, NFT Standards, NFT Future Opportunities, NFT Benefits, and NFT Uncertainties are discussed. In the study, which conceptually deals with NFT in many aspects, it is concluded that NFT technology has great transformation potential in a wide variety of areas despite the existing handicaps and can gain a more important place in the digital world with improvements and updates. Empirical and conceptual studies in the literature indicate parallelism with our results.

Teknoloji açısından her geçen gün değişen ve gelişen dünyada teknoloji hayatımızın her alanına nüfuz etmektedir. Yeni teknolojilerden biri olan ve başta finans dünyası olmak üzere birçok alanda büyük yenilikler ve dönüşümler yaratması beklenen blockchain kavramı 2009 yılında tanıtılmış ve o zamandan bu yana çok popüler bir kavram haline gelmiştir. Blockchain teknolojisinin geleneksel sektörlerin dinamiklerini değiştirmesinin ardından son yıllarda en çok dikkat çeken yeniliklerden biri olan NFT teknolojisi fikri ortaya atıldı. Özellikle 2020 sonrasında ‘Unchangeable Token’ deyimi ile Dijital Dünyada adından söz ettirmeye başlayan bu teknoloji, sanat, müzik, spor ve diğer popüler eğlence alanlarındaki dijital varlıkları metalaştırmak için kullanılmaktadır. Bu bölümün amacı, NFT’yi, çeşitli endüstriyel uygulama alanlarını, gelecekteki fırsatları, bu yeni teknolojinin ortaya çıkardığı engelleri ve avantajları kavramsal bir anlayış oluşturarak açıklamaktır. Bu kapsamda, NFT ile ilgili kavramsal konular, NFT ve Yönetim Bilişim Sistemleri arasındaki ilişki, NFT Oluşturmak için Teknik Prosedürler, NFT Uygulama Alanları, NFT Tarafından Getirilen Pilot Projeler, NFT Standartları, NFT Gelecek Fırsatları, NFT Faydaları, NFT Belirsizlikleri (Bariyerler) ele alınmıştır. NFT’yi birçok yönüyle kavramsal olarak ele alan çalışmada, NFT teknolojisinin mevcut handikaplara rağmen çok çeşitli alanlarda büyük bir dönüşüm potansiyeline sahip olduğu ve iyileştirmeler ve güncellemeler ile dijital dünyada daha önemli bir yer kazanabileceği sonucuna varılmıştır. Literatürde yer alan ampirik ve kavramsal çalışmalar, elde ettiğimiz sonuçlarla paralellik göstermektedir.
