A Review of the Effects of Information Technology and the Problematic Use of The Internet by Flight Personnel

Information technologies have developed very rapidly since the invention of the internet. Today, the human factor is the common focus of the information and aviation sectors. Using technological devices in both the aviation and information technology sectors may directly or indirectly affect the flight process and its outcome. In this chapter, the possible effects of information technologies on flight personnel are discussed in relation to several aspects. First, rules and effects of the use of information technologies in terms of flight safety are shared. After examining the decisions taken over the years regarding the use of mobile electronic devices during the flight and in the cabin, the risks arising from the problematic use of information technologies are discussed. The definition of internet addiction and various incidents in relation to problematic device use during flights are also reported. Then, to understand the human factor, the chapter focuses on information technologies and the user profile in the virtual world. Information technologies are also discussed from the viewpoint of the systems approach. Lastly, suggestions are presented to the aviation industry and researchers.

Bilgi Teknolojilerinin Etkileri ve Uçuş Personelinin Problemli İnternet Kullanımı Üzerine Bir Değerlendirme

Bilişim teknolojileri internetin icadından günümüze kadar geçen süre zarfında çok hızlı bir şekilde gelişmiştir. Günümüzde bilişim sektörü ile havacılık sektörünün ortak odağında insan ve insan faktörü yer almaktadır. Teknolojik cihazların havacılık sektöründe kullanılması hava yollarının işleyişini ve operasyonlarını da doğrudan ya da dolaylı olarak etkilemektedir. Bu bölümde bilişim teknolojilerinin uçuş personeli üzerindeki olası etkileri farklı açılardan ele alınmıştır. İlk olarak bilişim teknolojilerinin uçuş emniyeti açısından kullanımına ilişkin kuralları ve etkileri paylaşılmıştır. Taşınabilir elektronik cihazların uçuş sırasında ve kabinde kullanımına yönelik yıllar içerisinde alınan kararlar incelendikten sonra, bilişim teknolojilerinin sorunlu kullanımından kaynaklanan kullanıcı bazlı riskler ele alınmıştır. Ayrıca internet bağımlılığının tanımı ve uçuş sırasında cihaz kullanımının rapor edildiği çeşitli olaylar incelenmiştir. Daha sonra uçuş sürecinde insan faktörünü derinlemesine incelemek adına, bilişim teknolojileri ve sanal dünyadaki kullanıcı profili üzerinde durularak bilgi teknolojileri sistem yaklaşımı açısından ele alınmıştır. Son olarak havacılık endüstrisine ve araştırmacılara öneriler sunulmuştur.
