Cultural Evolution That Prepared the 1923
Selçuk MülayimThe history of culture, which encircles all branches of art, is also an explanation of the history of politics, thought and spirit. Within the scope of these relations, it is a recently adopted approach to examine the history of culture in the period up to the 1930s, in other words, within the cultural framework of the Early Republic of Turkey. Unless we are able to discuss, question and scrutinize in the light of events of which period, place and time have been determined, we will not be able to reach the quality of an analyzing and criticizing art history, as the ancients used to call it. It seems that a strong understanding of the period can only be established on a reliable chronological table. Therefore, the cultural events for the year 1923 given as annex is important as it concretely demonstrates the intent and purpose of the first steps taken in the culture of the Early Republic.

Selçuk MülayimSanatın her dalını kuşatan kültür tarihinin, aynı zamanda siyaset, düşünce ve ruh tarihinin bir açıklaması olduğunu fark ederek, bu ilişkileri 1930’lara kadarki süreçte, bir başka deyişle Erken Cumhuriyet’in kültürel çerçevesinde irdelemek oldukça yakın zamanlarda benimsenmiş bir yaklaşımdır. Dönemi, yeri ve zamanı belirlenmiş olayların ışığında tartışmaya, sorgulama ve irdelemeye girişemedikçe, eskilerin deyişiyle tahlilî ve tenkidî bir sanat tarihi kalitesine ulaşamayacağız. Anlaşılıyor ki, güçlü bir dönem kavrayışı, öncelikle güvenilir bir kronoloji tablosu üzerine oturabilecektir. Bu sebeple, ekte sunduğumuz 1923 yılı dökümü, atılan ilk adımların niyet ve maksadını somut olarak göstermesi bakımından önemlidir.
