Digital Twins and Modeling of Medical Systems
Zerrin Ayvaz Reis, Nilgün BozbuğaIn medical sciences, people’s health data can be monitored instantly through digitalization of health records and wearable technologies, and these data are used for holistic solutions within the scope of health protection and the development of preventive health services. The digitalization process in health is not one-sided, but its use has become more efficient through its interactions with new technologies and automation. The experience gained with the use of digital technology in health services can be continuously improved. Digital twin technology also plays an important role in improving healthcare. A digital twin is a virtual model of a product, process, or service. A digital twin uses real data about a real-life object or system as input, then generates predictions or simulations of how the real object or system will react based on these inputs. This system of modeling medical informatics in health institutions and in the health system in general allow patient safety to be ensured without causing risks or ethical problems that may have serious consequences in the field of health. This research conducts a pilot case study by examining the systems and applications that use digital twin technology in the field of health informatics in the world and in Turkey. As the subject of the case study, the modeling has been planned for general and detailed modeling, and wearable (i.e., smart) technological devices, a system-specific decision support system, and telemedicine application were taken into consideration as the information technology tools that should be included in the automation system. The study uses within its scope the unified modeling language (UML) methodology, which helps develop object-oriented software, in the analysis and design stages of the pilot application of the automation system. The study uses the Violet UML Editor 2.1.0 to model the automation system, conducting and presenting a general and detailed modeling of the system with use-case diagrams.
