Artificial Intelligence Applications Used in Pharmacy and Pharmact Related Fields

Beşir Sefa MumayÖmrüm Ergüven

The changes in living conditions that has occurred with the development of technology has necessitated new definitions for every profession. Pharmacy is a field where multidisciplinary studies with many different subdisciplines are possible. Pharmacy was defined as a profession distinct from medicine in 1960 for the first time and has undergone changes required by the era in every period after 1960. Examples such as compound laboratories, the increase in the number of commercial drugs, the drug tracking system, and the integration of the Medula Pharmacy System into pharmacies can be interpreted as a result of pharmacy services becoming compatible with the era. Artificial intelligence (AI) applications are known to be used in rational drug use, hospital pharmacies, community pharmacies, and drug development and production. The aim of this paper is to evaluate pharmacists’ responsibilities and pharmacy practices in general in the light of current data and the literature and to present examples of AI applications used in the field of pharmacy by explaining AI and its features. Disruptive technologies have been mentioned more with the era of Industry 4.0. The concept of Pharmacy 4.0 has emerged alongside the use of destructive technologies in many pharmaceutical stages, from the production of drugs to their presentation to patients. Pharmacists working in the era of Pharmacy 4.0 should have the qualifications to fulfill the requirements of the age, should understand technology, and should use this technology in a way that will benefit their profession. The use of different algorithms can contribute to different pharmaceutical areas.
