Descriptive Analysis of Bilgi Yönetimi (Journal of Information Management)
Ayşegül TokBilgi Yönetimi: Journal of Information Management (BY Journal), has been published by Ankara University Information Management System Documentation and Information Security Center (BİL-BEM) since 2018 as a resource that publishes peer-reviewed articles in the fields of interdisciplinary information management and informatics. This study analyzes the eight issues this journal has published in terms of article content and reviews. The study evaluates the journal’s publications in terms of article page counts, contributing institutions, publications’ field of reference, resource information, and publication languages, and authors’ organizational distributions. This study aims to determine BY Journal’s bibliometric profile. In order to examine the publications in BY Journal, data regarding the issues of the journal were obtained from the pages of DergiPark and Ankara University BİL-BEM. Data from TÜBITAK-ULAKBIM TRDizin were used for the citation reviews. According to the study findings, the journal published the most peer-reviewed in 2021. Of the studies published in the journal over four years, 29% are from 2019. Publishing institutions are mostly public institutions and organizations. The authors who made the most publications had the title of Doctor (Dr.). The most common themes are in the fields of information and document management systems, archives, and electronic information, respectively. The journal’s most-cited publication is “Büyük Veri: Uygulama Alanları, Analitiği ve Güvenlik Boyutu” [Big Data: Application Areas, Analytics and Security Dimension] was the most cited publication. The research methods that were used have been used at similar percentages. The number of references used in studies has increased over the years. The majority of peer-reviewed articles have one author. Following this study, regular internal analyses of BY Journal will be important in terms of monitoring the progress it has shown.
Bilgi Yönetimi Dergisi’nin Betimsel Analizi
Ayşegül Tok2018 yılından bu yana Ankara Üniversitesi Bilgi Yönetim Sistemleri Belgelendirme ve Bilgi Güvenliği Merkezi (BİL-BEM) tarafından yayınlanan Bilgi Yönetimi (BY) Dergisi, bilgi ve belge yönetimi ve bilişim alanlarında hakemli makalelerin yayımlandığı disiplinlerarası bir dergidir. Bu çalışmada, BY Dergisi’nin dört yıllık yayın periyodunu kapsayan 8 sayı içinde yayımlanan makaleler ile inceleme ve değerlendirme yazıları içerik özellikleri açısından analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada dergide yayımlanmış yazıların sayfa sayıları, katkı yapan kurumlar, yayın dilleri, atıf alan yayınlar, kaynakça bilgileri, yazarların kurum dağılımları çerçevesinde içerik değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır. Bu çalışma; BY Dergisi’nin bibliyometrik profilini belirlemeyi amaçlamaktır. BY Dergisi’ndeki yayınları incelemek amacıyla DergiPark ve Ankara Üniversitesi BİL-BEM sayfalarından derginin sayılarına ilişkin veriler elde edilmiştir. Atıf incelemeleri için TÜBİTAK-ULAKBİM TRDizin verileri kullanılmıştır. Çalışma bulgularına göre, en fazla hakemli makale 2021 yılında yayımlanmıştır. 4 yıl içinde dergide yayımlanmış çalışmaların %29’u 2019 yılına aittir. Yayım yapan kurumlar yüksek oranda kamu kurum/kuruluşlarıdır. En fazla yayın yapan yazarlar Doktor (Dr.) ünvanlı yazarlar olmuştur. Konusal yönelim çoğunlukla bilgi ve belge yönetim sistemleri, arşivler, elektronik bilgi alanlarındadır. “Büyük Veri: Uygulama Alanları, Analitiği ve Güvenlik Boyutu” başlıklı yayın en fazla atıf alan yayın olmuştur. Kullanılan araştırma yöntemleri yüzdesel olarak birbirine yakındır. Çalışmalarda faydalanılan kaynak sayıları yıllar itibariyle artış göstermektedir. Hakemli makalelerin büyük çoğunluğu tek yazarlıdır. Bu çalışmayı takiben BY Dergisi’nin düzenli olarak içerik analizi çalışmalarının yapılması gösterilen ilerlemenin takibi açısından önemli olacaktır.
This study performs an internal evaluation of Bilgi Yönetimi (Journal of Information Management, BY Journal) using bibliometric data. The study was carried out to contribute to increasing the journal’s visibility. The number of citations and the opportunity to be scanned by more indexes can be provided in this context. BY Journal has been published by Ankara University Information Management Systems Certification and Information Security Center (BİL-BEM) since 2018 as an interdisciplinary publication. The study has examined and revealed findings for eight editorial articles, 45 peer-reviewed articles, eight reviews, 15 introductory-evaluation articles, and 14 news articles from the eight issues of BY Journal published since 2018. In order to review the publications in BY Journal, data on the issues of the journal were obtained from DergiPark and Ankara University BİL-BEM. These data include the number of publications, author addresses, publication languages, publication types, and publication years. In addition, TÜBITAK-ULAKBIM TRDizin data were used for reviewing the citations. The obtained data were transferred to Microsoft Office Excel and evaluated with the help of Pivot Table and the software program MAXQDA2020, which helps to evaluate and interpret qualitative research systematically. Figures and tables were created in an attempt to reveal the relationships among authors, institutions, publications, citations, and subjects.
According to the findings, the highest number of peer-reviewed articles published between 2018-2021 occurred in 2021. The authors who published the most in the journal were observed to have the title of Doctor (Dr.). Publishing institutions were seen to mostly be public institutions, and examining the institutions’ profiles shows the highest number of publications to have come from publications with Ankara University in the address. Increasing the number of publications from different institutions as well as from Ankara University, which is the institutional address of the journal, will contribute to the journal’s development. The topics frequently preferred by the authors involve archives, information and document management systems, and electronic information. In addition, keywords such as health information systems, artificial intelligence, and e-archive are seen to have been used extensively. The most frequently used keywords are seen to coincide with the journal’s policy. When considering the purpose and scope of BY Journal, the journal states itself to be an interdisciplinary journal that includes qualified and original scientific studies in the fields of information management, archiving, and informatics.
The journal’s most-cited publication is “Büyük Veri: Uygulama Alanları, Analitiği ve Güvenlik Boyutu” [Big Data: Application Areas, Analytics and Security Dimension]. This publication’s field appears to be multidisciplinary, which can create a greater impact area. The research methods used in the articles are observed to resemble one another in terms of usage percentages, with empirical articles having been published at an increasing rate over the years. The average number of pages per peer-reviewed article published in the journal (the journal has published 45 in total) was calculated as 16.65 pages. When considering the number of references used in studies published in the journal, this number is seen to have increased since BY Journal began its publication life. The total number of foreign references used in peer-reviewed articles since 2018 is 970. The total number of domestic references utilized is 803. The majority of the published peer-reviewed articles were additionally determined to have one author and the language of publication to be predominantly Turkish. Studies that are conducted with multiple authors are able to create more impact. As such, BY Journal can benefit from supporting multi-author studies. Following this study, regularly repeating bibliometric studies of the journal and presenting the results will enable comparisons of both BY Journal and other journals publishing in the fields of information science and informatics, and this will be useful in terms of understanding the progress being shown.
