Semavi Eyice, yaşamı ve çalışmaları ile söyleşi, makale, tez ve kitaplara1 konu olan bir kültür ve sanat tarihçisi… Cumhuriyet döneminde yetişmiş, yazdığı eserleri için ‘bibliyografya kitapları’2 oluşturulmuş ülkemizin ender bilim kişilerinden biri… Yetişme ortamının çok katmanlılığı sayesinde, bilinçli ve kararlı olarak mesleğini seçmiş ve Bizans Sanatı alanında yetişerek; ülkemizin ilk Bizantolog’u ünvanının sahibi… Bizans, Osmanlı, Cumhuriyet dönemi sanatı ve eski eser korumacılığının üstadı… İstanbul sevdası ve engin birikimiyle ürettiği eserleriyle İstanbul kültür ve sanatının ‘pîri’… Dersleri, konferansları ve sohbetleriyle unutulmaz bir hoca…
