Approach to Thrombocytophenia in Children

Selime AydoğduSerap KaramanZeynep Karakaş

Platelets are the key elements that are responsible for primary hemostasis. When absolute number of platelets in peripheral blood is less than 150000/mm3 , it is called thrombocytopenia. Detailed anamnesis, complete physical examination and a laboratory evaluation including peripheral blood smear are vital when approaching to thrombocytopenic patients. Peripheral blood smear is the gold standard diagnostic approach for quantitative, and morphological evaluation of number, morphology and clustering of platelets and other blood elements as well.
