Digitalising Libraries and Digital Culture

Güler Demir

Today, while the management, organisation, functioning, products and/or services of institutions and organisations have acquired a different dimension with the effect of digital transformation, digital tools and technologies have produced a unique form of culture which is called digital culture. In this study, digital culture that evolves along with the digital age, problems that may arise accordingly and its reflection on libraries are discussed. The study is based on the qualitative description method and the analysis of the findings obtained from the literature review on the subject. The study concludes that a well-developed and healthy digital culture provides institutions and organisations not only with new technologies but also with new possibilities, new forms of collaborations and communications, as well as a spirit of innovation and creativity. Considering the gains to be achieved despite the wide range of problems that can be experienced within the framework of the digital culture that libraries have developed with digitalisation, awareness and training on digital culture can play a key role on solving problems and realising development results.
