Istanbul: Ville Visible Ou Invisible?

A partir des années 2000 Istanbul a connu un processus de transformation massive qui a fait d’elle, une ville anonyme ressemblant de plus en plus aux villes postmodernes comme tant d’autres, malgré une visibilité historique et médiatique qui lui a donné ses lettres de noblesse. Soumise à une nouvelle urbanisation acharnée et à une croissance démographique sans précédent, la ville est dotée, depuis une vingtaine d’années, des tours, des gratte-ciels, des centres commerciaux implantés sur le modèle des pays asiatiques et moyen- orientaux. Or son histoire exige la sauvegarde de son identité urbaine d’autrefois : celle d’une ville au carrefour de l’orient et de l’occident, du traditionnel et du moderne. Ce qui doit donner une pérennité à son aspect de ville historique. Tendue entre le passé et la modernité, la ville d’Istanbul se montre visible dans son rapport au présent ; mais son inscription dans les temps anciens la rend une “ville invisible” sous la poussée de l’urbanisation. L’analyse du décalage spatial et temporel entre la ville visible et la ville invisible nous permettra de mieux voir si la ville invisible est relayée, réitérée, reflétée ou filigranée par la ville visible. Nous souhaitons à travers cette analyse mieux comprendre dans quels sens la ville visible s’organise dans la praxis énonciative, un des thèmes sémiotiques.

Istanbul: Visible or Invisible City?

From the 2000s, Istanbul has undergone a massive transformation process that has made it an anonymous city increasingly resembling postmodern cities despite its high historical and media visibility which gives its glamour. Subjected to new and relentless urbanization and unprecedented population growth, the city has been endowed, for the last twenty years, with towers, skyscrapers and shopping malls based on the model of Asian and Middle Eastern countries. But its history requires the preservation of its urban identity of past as a city at the crossroads of East and West, the traditional and the modern. What should give a lasting aspect to its appearance as a historic city. Stretched between the past and the modernity, the city of Istanbul is visible in its relationship to the present; but its inscription in ancient times makes it an “invisible city”. The analysis of the spatial and temporal gap between the visible city and the invisible city will allow us to better see if the invisible city is relayed, repeated, reflected or carried by the visible city. Through this analysis, we wish to better understand the direction in which the visible city is organized in the enunciative praxis which is one of the semiotic issues.
