Political Apathy: An Evaluation in the Context of the 1982 Constitution and the 1983 General Elections
The aim of this study is to analyze whether the 1980 coup d'état moved the Turkish public away from politics in Turkey. The hypotheses of the study can be listed as follows: "The activities of those who made the 1980 coup d'état aimed at distancing the people from politics were reflected in the 1983 general elections", "The 1982 Constitution contains provisions aimed at distancing citizens from participating in politics" and "The political parties participating in the 1983 general elections have similar policies". Qualitative content analysis and questionnaire study were used to test the hypotheses of the research. Within the scope of qualitative content analysis method, the election declarations and programmes of the three parties that participated in the 1983 general election were coded and analyzed in MAXQDA Analytics Pro 2024. The data obtained from the qualitative content analysis were then tested through a questionnaire survey. As a result, it can be said that the hypotheses of the study have been confirmed due to both the provisions in the constitution that restrict citizens' participation in politics and the restrictions on the right to elect and be elected that arise as a result of the participation of only permitted parties in elections.
