This book is the outcome of interdisciplinary studies carried out at the international collo quia “Marcel Proust in Türkiye,” organized by the French Language and Literature, Turkish Language and Literature, and Psychology Departments of the Faculty of Letters, Istanbul University in collaboration with the Institute of French Istanbul and the Istanbul French Teachers Association on October 18-19, 2022, and “Can We Find Lost Time?” held on 22 October 2022, with the contributions of the Istanbul Psychoanalytic Association.
Proust, in 1973, foresaw that the impact of his seven-volume work would endure even a century later, stating to his assistant and confidante, Céléste Albaret, “You cannot imagine the number of people who will come to see you or write to you after my death.” The most outstanding evidence of this lies in the multitude of publications and the organization of numerous congresses, symposiums, colloquia, and exhibitions not only in France but world wide, all commemorating this anniversary. In Türkiye, where Proust’s works have signifi cantly influenced, researchers from various disciplines delve into his works. This collection of 14 articles stands as the first interdisciplinary study on Marcel Proust written in Türkiye, reflecting the profound respect extended to the author.
Nicolas Ragonneau, in 2019, describes Proust’s work as “such a complex and compre hensive world that each generation has to create new compasses to find its way” (2019, p. 8). Similarly, the In Search of Lost Time series continues to stand as a masterpiece that influ ences different generations and significantly contributes to literature in various countries. It introduces new trends and perspectives, profoundly impacting numerous writers and schol arly works worldwide. |
