While teaching Private International Law in English to foreign students participating in the Erasmus program at the Istanbul University Faculty of Law, we recognized a significant gap: despite numerous works on Private International Law in Turkish language, there is a lack of diverse reference materials in English. The previous study by Tekinalp/Nomer/Odman Boztosun addressed this need to some extent, but it was published in 2012 and it is significantly difficult to access. Therefore, we decided to write this book, drawing on our lecture notes, to serve as a textbook for Private International Law courses taught in English.

Besides, we also aimed to write this book in a way that would guide practitioners. It provides basic guidance for those intending to file a lawsuit involving cross-border disputes in Türkiye. Additionally, this book touches on the discussions in Turkish scholarly literature concerning Private International Law, without delving into excessive detail, making it a useful resource for foreign scholars as well.

We hope that this book will be useful for students, practitioners and foreign scholars alike, serving as a comprehensive reference on Turkish Private International Law.

We extend our gratitude to Att. Dr. Doğan Gültutan for his valuable contributions, especially in proofreading. We also thank Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cansu Kaya for her support during the publication process. Finally, we express our appreciation to İÜ Press and to Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Köroğlu for their meticulous work. Last but not least, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Gökhan Çimen for his careful preparation of the book for publication.
