Mehmet Akif and National Anthem on the 100th Anniversary of Its Adoption
Adoption of the National Anthem on the Axis of Domestic and Foreign Political Developments in Turkey
Abdurrahman BozkurtThe Turkish National Anthem, which was written at a time when the Turkish people were exposed to serious internal and external threats to their sovereignty, describes the conditions of the country with the most sincere feelings. The Allied Powers, which occupied strategically important Turkish lands after the Armistice of Mudros, were aiming to implement their projects aimed at disintegrating Turkey. The National Struggle Movement, which was organized against these plans and projects, became the direct target of the Sultan and the Damat Ferid Pasha Government after the official occupation of Istanbul and the resignation of the Salih Pasha Government. The antiNational Struggle attitude of the Sultan and his government, who were in captivity in Istanbul and were disturbed by the establishment of a separate administration in Anatolia, could have led to a duality in the country. The National Anthem, which aims to increase the motivation and strengthen the spirituality of the Turkish people, who were faced with the danger of internal conflict due to the pressures of the Allied Powers, was also a response to the campaign against the National Struggle, which was being carried out from Istanbul. This study aims to examine the conditions in which Mehmed Âkif wrote the National Anthem in the axis of domestic and foreign political developments.
