Remote Health Management for Peripheral Arterial Diseases with Mobile Devices

Mustafa ÇetinkayaSevinç GülseçenNilgün Bozbuğa

Peripheral arterial diseases encompass a range of conditions characterized by atherosclerosis of the lower and upper extremities. As a prevalent health issue, monitoring and managing these diseases are crucial to improving patient outcomes. In recent years, the advent of mobile devices, including health measurement devices, smartphones, and smartwatches, has opened up new possibilities for remote monitoring and intervention in various medical conditions, including peripheral arterial diseases. In this proposal, we aim to explore the potential of mobile devices in the context of peripheral arterial diseases, focusing on their ability to perform necessary measurements, record data, and facilitate communication between patients and doctors. The evaluation considers the measurements available in the peripheral arterial diseases’ clinical assessment form. The selection of mobile devices for the study involves considerations of usage rate, technological innovation, and alignment with the medical field’s requirements. Additionally, the study delves into the communication aspects between patients and doctors through mobile devices. Patients can receive timely and personalized treatment recommendations by transmitting health data to doctors. This continuous and objective-based communication strengthens reporting and offers the potential for early diagnosis and intervention in the case of any anomalies or ingravescent conditions. Ultimately, remote monitoring of peripheral arterial diseases with mobile devices is an essential method that allows continuous monitoring of patients’ health status and timely intervention. Even so, although some measurements can be made and communication can be provided, remote monitoring of peripheral arterial diseases using mobile devices is still in its early stages, and there is a need to develop integrated systems and devices. It presents some challenges that need to be addressed as well. Ensuring the security of patient data, preserving patient privacy, and protecting personal information are paramount considerations. Adequate protective policies should be implemented to safeguard sensitive data and maintain the trust of patients in the healthcare system.
