Urbanization and Urban Functions in Turkey

The urbanization in Turkey has been subjected to many studies made by scientists in different field of study. Most of them, prepared by researchers engaged in technical or administrative work, consider either urbanization as a whole or cities individually. Social scientists have recently made noticeable contributions on this subject as well.
The present study constitutes a geographical contribution on urbanization. The factors that play the most prominent part in the urbanization of settlements, through observations on areal characteristics of urbanization have been investigated and a «classification» made accordingly.
