WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE JEWELRY SECTOR IN TURKEY

Merve HaykırMeri Taksi Deveciyan

The increasing participation of woman power in the economy, the increase in the number of researches on woman entrepreneurship, especially in the field of management, is remarkable. The history of fashion, such as jewelry, dating back to the ancient centuries, and contributing to the economy, has hardly been studied; this can be considered as a negative development in terms of the improvements of the sector. When the literature is examined and information is obtained from sectoral sources; it is observed that woman entrepreneurship in the jewelry sector is far behind the other sectors. In the jewelry sector, the female entrepreneur ratio is low; the dependence of the sector on traditional production systems, the continuation of the master-apprentice relationship, the inadequacy of working environments and the widespread gender inequality among women are listed as effective reasons. In sectors such as jewelry sector, which have a leading role in economic development; the study of woman entrepreneurship will help to address the underlying causes of gender inequalities and contribute to the welfare of the country.
