İmparator I. Aleksios Komnenos Döneminde Bizans-Batı İlişkileri (1081-1118)

Eser; önsöz (s. VII-VIII), metin içerisinde ve dipnotlarda kullanılan kısaltmaların açıklaması (s. XI), çalışmada yazarın başvurduğu kaynaklar ve araştırma eserleri (s. 1-6) ile okuyucunun çalışma hakkında ön bilgiye sâhip olduğu giriş kısmının (s. 7-23) yanı sıra toplam dört ana bölümü içermektedir. Müellifin biyografisinin yer aldığı bölümde İngilizce, Almanca ve Latince metinler üzerinde çalışma yetkinliğine sâhip olduğu belirtilmekte ve bu hususta eser, muhtelif dillerde yayınlanan kaynaklardan oluşan bir çalışma olarak okurlara sunulmaktadır. Müellifin önsözde (s. VII-VIII) belirttiği üzere, çalışmada 476 yılında Roma İmparatorluğu’nun yıkılmasından itibâren Bizans’ın Batı ile olan ilişkileri kısaca okuyucuya aktarılmış ve sonrasında 1081 ve 1118 yıllarında Doğu Roma’nın hâkimi olan Bizans İmparatoru I. Aleksios Komnenos döneminde Bizans-Batı ilişkileri eserin ana konusu ihtiva edilmiştir. Çalışmada, Roma ve İstanbul’un asırlar süren çatışmalarının sonucunda Batı ile Doğu Roma arasındaki dînî ve kültürel farklılıkların daha da belirgin hale gelmesi kiliseler arasında ayrılığı doğurmuş ve bunun sonucunda siyâsî ilişkilerin nasıl şekillendiği yansıtılmaya çalışılmıştır.
