Book Review: Literary Theories: From Hermeneutics to Human-Animal Studies (2023)
Furkan KocaThe book titled Literary Theories: From Hermeneutics to Human-Animal Studies was written by Onur Kemal Bazarkaya and published by Nobel Akademik Yayıncılık in 2023. It examines literary theories that have developed over time and are at the center of literary studies. The book consists of 12 chapters, the first of which is an introduction. Each chapter discusses the theoretical foundations and historical background of a literary theory with examples of literary textual analysis. Additionally, the author occasionally provides the reader fresh viewpoints and interjects his own interpretations, which encourages the reader to form their own opinions regarding literary theories. Another notable aspect of the book appears to be the fact that several of the literary notions it discusses have not before been sufficiently or at all discussed in Turkish sources. With all these features, it can be said that the book is a strong contender to contribute significantly to Turkish literary studies as well as to scholars, students, and readers who are interested in the field.

Kitap, ilki giriş bölümü olmak üzere 12 bölümden oluşmaktadır. Her bölüm, bir edebiyat kuramının teorik temellerini ve tarihsel arka planını edebi metin çözümlemesi örnekleriyle birlikte ele almaktadır. Ayrıca, yazar zaman zaman okuyucuya yeni bakış açıları sunmakta ve kendi yorumlarını katarak okuyucuyu edebiyat kuramları hakkında kendi fikirlerini oluşturmaya teşvik etmektedir. Kitabın dikkat çeken bir diğer yönü de tartıştığı edebi kavramların birçoğunun daha önce Türkçe kaynaklarda kapsamlı biçimde tartışılmamış olmasıdır. Tüm bu nitelikleriyle kitabın, Türkiye’deki edebiyat çalışmalarına olduğu kadar alana ilgi duyan akademisyen, öğrenci ve okurlara da önemli katkılar sunmaya aday olduğu düşünülebilir.
