Stem cells are undifferentiated cells and newly developed molecular techniques have made significant advances in our ability to study the development of stem cells. An important stimulus for the development of these techniques has been the identification of specific stem cells for gene therapy. Stem cell research plays an important role in tissue regeneration, treatment of neurological disorders, treatment of cardiovascular diseases and treatment of brain diseases. Some studies have shown that the effects of stem cell therapy can last for several years or even indefinitely, while other studies have shown that the results may be more short-lived. Bringing such complex procedures for revolutionary and reproducible cell replacement therapies into general, common regenerative medicine will require interdisciplinary and international co-operation. | ||
